For over a decade, FreeBitco.in represented one of Bitcoin’s longest-running success stories, onboarding millions of users by giving away free satoshis. While most early Bitcoin faucets eventually folded, FreeBitco.in remained a rare survivor-until late 2025.

What started as subtle withdrawal hiccups rapidly devolved into an apparent exit scam, freezing hundreds of Bitcoin while management vanished. Caught between regulatory heat, forced tokenization, and escalating legal fees, the platform ultimately unraveled, leaving users empty-handed after a sudden, suspicious blackout.

Dear user, after more than 12 years in operation FreeBitco.in has made the difficult decision to shut down because of widespread abuse across the website.

If you are a genuine user, please do not worry - your funds are safe. We are currently in the process of sifting through genuine users and abusers which is taking much longer than expected because of our tens of millions of users.

As a part of this process, the website will be replaced by a shutdown page in the coming weeks and after that we shall start the process of migating genuine users to the new shutdown database where they will be able to login and initiate withdrawals of their balances.

We expect withdrawals to be enabled by early 2026. Unfortunately due to the tedious process of weeding through our large database, this is much longer than we are happy with but we have little choice other than going through each user account manually to seperate genuine users and abusers.

We would like to thank you for being a loyal user of our website and would like to ask for your patience while we work through this process.

Please do not send any funds to your deposit address! Any funds sent after this point might need to be manually credited after the shutdown is complete which might take a while!

A Pattern of Frozen Funds Affected users shared a strikingly uniform timeline:

• August–September 2025: Standard and priority withdrawal requests sat trapped in "pending" status indefinitely. Support tickets went ignored, and no transaction IDs were ever generated.

• October 2025: The site temporarily crashed when its domain expired on October 10. Although restored quickly, account access remained unreliable and withdrawal processing stayed completely halted.

• November 2025: Long-pending withdrawals remained stuck, while reward points were abruptly halved without notice. Key BitcoinTalk support figures ("TheQuin" and "CSFBC") cut off all communication.

• December 2025: Management officially announced a platform shutdown, promising to reactivate withdrawals by early 2026 after manually auditing tens of millions of accounts for fraudulent activity.

The "Shutdown" Cover-Up Users widely viewed the December announcement as an exit scam masked as a controlled phase-out.

The official notice blamed "widespread platform abuse" for the operational halt, stating that a manual review of every account was necessary to separate legitimate users from bad actors. It promised that legitimate users would eventually be migrated to a dedicated "shutdown database" and urged the community to remain patient while withdrawals were temporarily paused.

We lost our coins!

Unfortunately, the operator did not keep their word and pay out the outstanding balances. In our account alone, there were still over 100,000 satoshi, which are now gone!

We have nevertheless decided to include Freebitco. to the Hall of Fame list, as this service had more users than any other and operated successfully and fairly for over a decade, always paying out to its users. Nevertheless, there is of course a blemish in the end, as this conclusion for one of the best faucets in history is inglorious and undignified.
